19 engraved folding plates FIRST EDITION. The Swiss chronometer-maker Berthoud, who trained with his brother, settled in Paris in 1745. His chronometers were among the best and most accurate of his time. He was a member of the Institute and a fellow of the Royal Society of London, clockmaker to the Navy and clockmaker to the king.
