The Franklin Mint Civil War - Official Collector's Edition is an ultra deluxe collector's edition of the popular American Civil War themed Strategy game. All this in style, such as the luxurious Franklin Mint editions of Monopoly, Scrabble, etc. The game board is made of mahogany-colored wood with a sunken midfield depicting the battlefield and some gold artillery pieces. Above it is a glass playing field with the division of the compartments. The edge of the board features various medallions / coins with images of Civil War heroes. On both sides of the game board there is a drawer for storing the game pieces. The game pieces are made of gold-plated or silver-plated tin. The Union Army is plated with 24k. gold and the Confederate army silver plated with sterling silver. The traditional Stratego images on the game pieces have been partly replaced by the military leaders from the Civil War such as: for the Yankees: # 1 Marshal: Abraham Lincoln # 2 General: Ulyssess S. Grant # 3 Colonel: George Meade # 4 Major: Joseph Booker # 5 Captain: George McClellan # 6 Lieutenant: Ambrose Burnside # 7 Sergant: William Sherman # 8 Minor: John Gibbon # 9 Scout: George Custer Spy: Philip Sheridan And for the Southerners: # 1 Marschalk: Jefferson Davis # 2 General: Robert E Lee # 3 Colonel: Stonewall Jackson # 4 Major: John Bell Hood # 5 Captain: James Longstreet # 6 Lieutenant: Ambrose Hill # 7 Sergant: George Pickett # 8 Minor: Louis Armistead # 9 Scout: John Hunt Morgan Spy: Jeb Stuart (the numbering is different from the usual games) The bombs and banners are of course unchanged. Due to last minute licensing issues, this game was never officially serialized nor offered for sale. Only a few (maximum 30) samples have been shipped for 'display purposes' to some Franklin Mint outlets in America. This makes this 'The Holy Grail' among strategy games.
