Details
The 64 bit Nintendo N64 was released in 1996 Japan/USA and in 1997 in Europe. It was the last video game console that used ROM-cartridges. The N64 was the only real competitor for the Sony PlayStation. It was technologically superior to the PlayStation and was in many ways innovative. It featured an analog joypad that could be equipped with a Rumble Pack or additional Memory Cards. The ROM-cassettes had advantages (fast loading ), but a lot of commercial drawbacks. The cartridges were expensive to develop and produce. Moreover, the PlayStation CD Rom games were easy to copy which made the PlayStation even more popular.
