I think one is too many?

Seems to me you should merge South Yemen with Yemen - Republic.

Piece of cake, now that you're a super admin.
Go to Administration > Merge staging areas.

I do want to be sure. Don't be embarrassed :)
An administrator has created the area ... maybe there is a reason and the name needs to be changed?
If the creator, or postmaster , confirms that it can be merged, I'll give it a try.

It will be more complicated than just merging.

I presume the "South Yemen" area was originally envisioned.
A few years later a 2nd area 'Yemen - Republic' with the alias 'South Yemen' was added.

Example below: A user added an item in 'South Yemen' #4519635 .
A few years later, the same user adds the same item (with the same scan) in 'Yemen - Republic' #5907257 . There, the image was improved a little later by another user (even stamped, smaller size, but less skewed). The 2 items have the same origin, but now look different, and are in different areas.
Normally the newest should disappear (the item with the improved image...).

This is a sewer that opens ... what a stench.

This is also a wonderful example of how the administrator module can completely mislead an administrator.
For South Yemen, the part to be reviewed on that stamp starts with 'version 4'.
As an administrator you might assume: other administrators have already checked and confirmed the first 3 versions (the addition and 2 additional changes). So: don't look too much further (no in-depth investigation into possible 'duplication'). See what has changed since then and evaluate those changes.
However, as you can deduce from the previous screenshot, the first version (the 'add') has NEVER been viewed. There are only 3 fake reviews (ghost reviews) among all the rest that play unnecessary jamming.

Hence my aversion to 'autoreview'. It may be convenient for the administrator in question, but extremely disruptive for other administrators. As a result, you can no longer trust other administrators, and you have to check every item yourself, from needle to thread.
This way we will never get rid of the mountain of open reviews of several hundreds of thousands ...

Is there really no script running to get rid of all those circular fake/ghost reviews (throw them out) so that we can get started with a more pure basis?

If you merge the two areas, the items will be listed under the same country.
Wouldn't it then be easier to recognize them as duplicates?

Indeed, the South Yemen area has existed longer than Yemen Republic .
The latter was originally only intended for stamps from 1990, when North and South Yemen were united.
It is not entirely clear to me why North Yemen ( Yemen - Arab Republic ) is still separately listed in the catalog and South Yemen was merged with the later republic.

The problem has been known for years. When studying the history of this region, the same names appear to have been used for different areas and different names for the same area . This creates the confusion. So it's not a simple matter of "putting it together". I didn't quite get it at the time either.

Learned a bit about the history of the area.
Names and aliases adjusted, and a short background overview for each area.
I currently have 5 areas left, of which I have already gone through 2 completely (doubles merged, structure via issue, some catalog numbers added, ...).
1st Kingdom (1918-1962) and South Yemen are about right now.
There was also some Upper jaffa in between ... Quite a circus to me.

The rest is for later.

The problem will have started due to the addition of the alias 'South Yemen' to Yemen - Republic. That was not correct.
