We just sent this email to all users:

Last week we announced that we will be introducing paid subscriptions for the continuity of the LastDodo platform as of December 1st. You will find the details in this email.

Subscriptions for major sellers
In the first place, there are subscriptions for large sellers where the subscription is mainly based on the total value of the items in the shop. We do not take into account the 'stock' (if several copies of an item are offered, then the extra items do not count). As a seller, with a subscription you are more at the front of the 'For sale' block for catalog items and at the front of featured shops on the homepage and other places. And there is additional functionality available such as being able to block buyers with whom there has been a bad experience, an integration with SendCloud, which allows you to create shipping labels and save on your shipping costs, and integration with a party for online payment. In addition, these sellers receive a personal helpdesk entrance for quick assistance in the event of malfunctions and problems. The very largest sellers, with a shop value of more than 30,000 euros, will receive a personal offer for a POWER Seller subscription tomorrow.

VIP subscription for collectors
In addition, we are introducing a VIP subscription for collectors with additional functionality (such as an extensive export function and receiving wish list matches earlier) and the possibility to have a fairly large shop (up to 3,000 euros in value). This VIP subscription is available at no cost to active administrators and to users who make exceptionally useful contributions to the catalog (at the discretion of the administrators).

Important: Managing your collection and wish list remains free, regardless of the size of your collection. There is no plan to make that paid in the future, so you can continue to manage your collection based on the catalog for free.

Some existing functions, in particular 'bulk actions' (adding or removing many items quickly), own images and being able to make your collection private, will be included in the VIP subscription to make it even more attractive. Collections that are now private will never be opened up just like that. The user can only add to such a collection again after making it public or purchasing a subscription.

We want to spend the subscription fees in full on:
  1. Developing much-requested new functionality such as a brand new app.
  2. Promoting LastDodo to bring new collectors to the platform and grow so that sellers are expected to sell more than they do now.

See the subscription content page for even more details. The subscriptions can be canceled per month, but you get a discount of 20% - 25% if you immediately purchase them for a year.

You can already purchase a subscription. This will then take effect on 1 December and you will then only pay for the period from 1 December. Then you can be sure that you have all the functionality to optimally manage your collection and that your shop will remain open on December 1.

Of course we hope that many users will want to purchase a subscription. Also to support the platform. That does not alter the fact that we will also continue to cherish all users who do not.

With these changes we are convinced that the continuity of LastDodo is guaranteed. Ultimately, every platform needs a source of income to continue to exist.

Can imagine that it is not a nice message sucazel but it is really necessary to cover the costs of the site somewhat.

According to our calculations, the subscription fee for the vast majority of sellers would represent a few percent up to 10% of their monthly turnover. If it is above that, it may be because the sales prices are relatively high or because what is offered is less in demand.

More than 95 euros a year not to be treated as a third-rate user? When I received the email, I thought of an amount per year that you will now charge per month.....

You can look at it in different ways WammesWaggel

For 7.95 (monthly price) you can't buy much more than 2 beers or 2 cappuccinos on a terrace these days.

But we fully understand that it's not nice that some things that used to be free are now paid.

Totally beyond reason.
5% of every 100 euro sale that's neat.
What you want is the bankruptcy of lastdodo.
Do not participate in this yourself.
I did the math myself
Earned 7000 in 10 years, this is not included in the investment.
Monthly subscription 60 euros per month
720 in the year.
1 year subscription costs me 10% of 10 years of turnover and almost 30% of this year and that is not including the deposit.
The comic books that are sold have also cost money.
Go ahead and do business instead of sucking your customers.

The response that it costs money simply does not suffice.
You want money in advance.
Again I'm quite willing to pay but these prices and the way absolutely not.
Again 5% of all sales of lastdodo must generate a good turnover and an advertising banner or something can also bring in money.
Your solution is unimaginative and leaves everything to the customer

You have not incurred any costs in the past 10 years (since March 2013). You could also be grateful for that, of course....

and nearly 30% this year

That is quite exceptional. Perhaps you can take a look at your offer / pricing.

By the way, quite a few subscriptions are currently being purchased, so this is certainly not insurmountable for everyone.

Hi Rene,
I really don't see this.
My shop currently has a value of 4000 EUR. A subscription would cost me EUR 434.88 (VAT in) per year in my category on a turnover of +/- EUR 900 per year. Isn't that out of proportion? I also thought that performance (facts) would be taken into account. I don't notice this. Mind you, years ago the sales of the sellers were much higher, but for unknown reasons this has collapsed. I used to have about 30 sales a month; now that is still 3 or 4. Large sellers such as MrWiki even closed their shop. The only ones who will have felt this less are the stores, because they offer the newly released comics.
But for me this is really not feasible.
Regards,
Jodic

Sorry Rene, but you've also lost mine to 12 years. 7.95 euros is too much for me and I think for more people in this day and age, especially if you have benefits. 5 euros p/m might just go, understand that everything is getting more expensive, but everything is also getting more expensive for me. Have you done so much for Catawiki/LastDodo for 12 years, so many changes, put in so much time and then you will be fobbed off. Own images are only allowed with a subscription and that's what matters most to me that it's no longer free. Then only on Marktplaats you can at least free adv. and post photos without a subscription.

This may be a personal observation based on your own sales, but in general this is not true. Every year the overall sales grow and this year they even grow relatively fast.

My shop currently has a value of 4000 EUR.

You might want to consider removing some less common things or lowering some prices so that you stay below the EUR 3,000 limit of the TOP seller subscription?

It's nice that some people feel compelled to take out a subscription. I don't see this as a reason that you went the right way or made the right choice.
Lastdodo will have less content and shops will need higher margins.
Downward spiral.

I am not a professional seller, I am a hobbyist who occasionally sells something. I have a shop with a value of more than 6000 euros. But that's not what I convert. In the past 13 months I have sold for an average of 55 euros per month. With a subscription of €29.95 per month that I have to take out, this means that more than 50% of my turnover goes to LastDodo.
And don't come up with: then you should put more interesting stuff in your shop. Because someone with a value of less than 300 euros still has to pay 7.95 per month, just under 100 euros per year. How is he ever going to pull that off? (And moreover: we are not even allowed to sell items over 75 euros!)
No, I don't mind that we have to pay money, but then a percentage is much fairer. You have to take for granted that goat paths are taken. Sites like Discogs and Boekwinkeltjes do the same. Now every risk is passed on to the customer.
I'm curious how this will develop. I wish LastDodo good luck.

I will also stop, the only reason I was on Lastdodo is that the books in question don't have an isbn, otherwise I would be long gone from here. Because I don't do sales here, I do that better on BOL.COM, you also have to pay a lot there, but that is with sales, that is easier to calculate. And if I were you I would look at turnover instead of value shop.

> I see that there is a discount on taking out an annual subscription, but what if the value of a shop falls permanently below the threshold of € 3000 after a few months, for example, while you have paid for an annual subscription? Will this be settled retroactively?

> And what is considered sufficient commitment in terms of entries to not have to pay any or part of the subscription costs?

> I also did not see an answer to the question whether the max selling price of € 75 will be increased. Isn't that more than reasonable for shops that pay 29.95 or more per month?

Furthermore, I think it is only realistic that there must also be a revenue model for LastDodo, or at least income that covers costs incurred such as hosting servers, etc. So thank you for existing!

I'm curious how this will develop.

Downward spiral.

We have to wait and see how it will develop, but at least a lot of subscriptions are now being closed and that looks good for the time being.

Perhaps people can try to imagine that if something is completely free for 10 years (which you could also say was nice, but good), it cannot always remain free.

We also have a lot of costs here and in the end it would be nice to come to a situation where we can cover those costs to some extent and also put more money into promoting the platform so that the shops that do stay will sell even more.

Rene,

I understand very well that the sun rises for nothing and also that there will be enough parties that do take out a subscription.

And I hope it will work for you too, but there are also a lot of sellers whose turnover is not enough to pay these costs. Why not a subscription based on turnover, then you have a real choice.

Best regards.

10 years free is nonsense, catawiki has made the interesting part of the books as auction items.
And well deserved.
And therefore made my shop and that of others less attractive.
Definitely cost me
You are now making someone else's merit your own.
Last dodo certainly has a right to money, but you're just asking too much.

As a collector a shop of 1000 €. Sold for 700 this year. That will be scaled down to collector. That's free with a shop of 300€. Well it's a pity but not the end of the world. I see it this way, that I have enjoyed a free collector and sales platform for 11 years. I also made good money from the shop to partly finance my collection.
It is a hard blow for collectors with a large shop. But you have to ask yourself if something has been in the shop for 7 years, is it sellable at all

If you are forced to take out a subscription, it's over and done with. You have not thought carefully about the subscription prices and you are chasing away the smaller sellers.
There are other sites that are free or cheaper with a wider reach!
In this way I already see the end of lastdodo in sight, downward spiral as has been indicated several times.
