Is a release WITH adapter and the same release WITHOUT adapter 2 separate items?
Or "should" they be together?

Nobody wants? give it a shot....  actually one would probably say: not together.
The underlying reason (for me) is purely 'value based' for a 'real collector'.
A collector will want to have everything in as 'original' form/release as possible.
For a music 'listener' only the 'audio part' is important. (besides 'having' that copy ('as long as it's good')). (and yes, is also a collector on a different level (please feel some nuance).
Adapters can be obtained separately in no/no longer present.
The only alternative (wouldn't really know the reason), is when a 'publisher' decides to produce this in 2 different editions (of course excluding costs from financial/production technology).
If the 'publisher' does this as different releases do, then that should also to be/published; and then you have 2 different 'collection items' (and that's where the 'record' pinches hihi; is that fact known?)

I have a few examples.
This one is with adapter #5486097 can be entered
This is without adapter #932429 smooth inside, you can enter.
This one is with broken adapter #5746811 you can't enter it, if the rest has exactly the same as the item with adapter.
Hope I helped you a bit.
Greetings John.

As far as I'm concerned they are two different items. This is how we have always treated them within CW/LD. Lyonese has pointed it out well.
Leike-w Manufacturers have made both versions in the past. This originally had to do with jukeboxes (large opening needed). And indeed. collectors want both versions and preferably also different pressings, different covers and all that from different countries ;-)

Singles with "smooth" opening I get it, it's about the "break out" singles.
The Jimmy Castor Bunch: Troglodyte pictures with adapter broken out,  I have the single in ori. state, hence the question.
So in such situations I can replace the photo with an adapter version...?
And with a single where there is no image of a label at all, I can post a photo  of label without adapter...?

Thank you all.

Break out and you still have the originals just replace the scan

If there is no third scan then any image from label is welcome
