An Englishman wants to buy a CD from me, but thinks he shouldn't have to pay shipping. As soon as he receives my invoice, he starts threatening (name removed)=
Dear Lordernie
The price quoted on your website was the price I have already paid with my Debit Card. I am not willing to pay your inflated price of 16 Euro and 95 cents. Please refund my payment as soon as possible. If you don't, I shall report you to the Administrator of LastDodo. This is not the correct way to run an online business, I am disgusted and I shall complain to LastDodo.

I offer buyers from abroad, usually Belgium, but Germany also occurs, postal rates are the cheapest (postnl) without track trace and with track trace. A hassle but avoids nagging. Perhaps that gentleman has fallen over 13 euros shipping costs. Then some buyers no longer look at a cheap CD, which apparently cannot be obtained for next to nothing in the UK. But how can a buyer pay without having received an invoice , had he already bought before ?

My account number is visible to me, but to buyers only after I have sent my invoice. At least that's what I thought. I just looked at your visible info, but I really don't see your account number anywhere nor your email address. When I order something, I only see the seller's email address, but no further personal info.

What about customs, import and export costs and related administration in 'trade' with an EU country? Great Britain is non-EU ...
Since 01/07/2021, bPost in Belgium has stopped all parcels from outside the EU. First you have to 'clear customs' (paid) for the import. Since then, not a single Belgian has ordered from Ali-express. Failure to pay = parcel will be destroyed.
In short: should an Englishman in the UK therefore not pay import taxes (file costs + %-age on the value) if he purchases something in Belgium or the Netherlands (whether or not via LD) ? I think those costs can be a multiple of those 13 euros?
I wonder ...
In any case, I don't order anything from Amazon.nl anymore. You never know from where the package will be sent. If you order and it comes unexpectedly from Hong Kong or UK ... then you also pay a very high bill (or lose money and no package).
What about the sales on LD with non-EU? Nations? Or as a buyer if you buy something via LD outside the EU?

Jawadde dadde ...
UK VAT (levy and transfer), be registered with 'HM Revenue & Customs', fulfill all the administrative obligations surrounding it, customs costs, customs clearance, VAT, administration costs (for Royal Mail, UPS, DHL, ...), etc.
And there may also be penalties and fines for those who doesn't follow, or can't follow rules.

Hence: "Many smaller EU-based retailers have decided that the paperwork of collecting VAT in the UK is not worth the hassle and as a result no longer have to consumers will deliver."

You might be lucky Ernie. But I'd rather not sell to the British public anyway. It doesn't seem obvious to me. If you don't really know what and how, then it is rap (unintentionally) illegal and you are engaged in fraud. It does feel a bit like discrimination. Oh well, they chose it themselves didn't they (own island first)?

Peter, do you happen to know if it's a difference for Northern Ireland (doesn't belong to Great Britain, but is part of of the United Kingdom)? There was a special arrangement somewhere I seem to remember ... but whether that went through in the end.

I know that problem. I offered a book for sale for 5 euros, and then they ask: Does that include shipping costs? I have to admit I saw the same book for the same price on globe and it included shipping costs, but I can't do that. Those online stores have spoiled the buyers of some products (CDs and books) with their lures, and the recycling stores have taken it even further by selling books at 1 euro/kg. Then some think it's a good thing for the collectors, but that's not true. It's a good thing for wheelbarrow loaders, but not for collectors, because those stores devalued our collection. After all, we generally did not buy at prices below the price of waste paper.

I wonder how you get to the UK at 13 euros for letter up to 350 grams, this is currently only 7.75 euros

I suspect that a 3CD-box is simply too thick to send as a letter, from Belgium just like from the Netherlands.

Comics are also tricky: light enough, but the wrong size for letter rate.

Harry, I see, but I also had an order, for which I had not yet sent an invoice, but which had already been paid for by the buyer. Buyer had never bought from me before... wonder how did he get my account number...

Tammo, "About this seller" only shows what you enter yourself via profile? In any case, I did not enter any name and address or bank account. If someone does want to put that down in advance, it's his or her choice. I would not do it.

Rate of 1,91 which you mention for Europe seems impossible to me, goods (So everything on ld) may not be sent to another country by letter post.
Due to the European postal law you are obliged to send goods to another country with barcode (i.e. registered or as a package)

In view of the rates mentioned, I suspect that  lordernie  mentions the rates of Belgium and aartinge those of the Netherlands.

However, this does not alter the fact that goods must always have a barcode, because this rule applies throughout the eu because it is a rule from the European postal law
