Mijn kennis van The Dave Clark Five is nul maar naar aanleiding van dit bericht toch maar eens YouTube afgestruind en het viel niet tegen. Weet nog wel dat Gary Pig Gold mij eens zei dat de grootste fan en verzamelaar van de DCF uit Nederland kwam maar zijn naam ben ik vergeten.
My knowledge of The Dave Clark Five is zero, but as a result of this post I went to YouTube and it was not disappointing. Remember that Gary Pig Gold once told me that the biggest fan and collector of the DCF came from the Netherlands, but I have forgotten his name.

Ik heb eens ooit ergens gelezen dat Dave Clark zelf zich al vrij snel bemoeide met de bussineskant van de muziek en dat hem dat geen windeieren heeft gelegd.

I once read somewhere that Dave Clark himself soon got involved with the business side of music and that it did him no harm.
In feite regelde Dave Clark alles en dat wordt niet door iedereen als iets positiefs gevonden. Inderdaad is Dave Clark er erg rijk van geworden, de andere leden van de DC5 (zoals ze vaak genoemd worden) zijn er financieel gezien een stuk minder rijk van geworden.
Ik heb 3 leden van de DC5 (Dave Clark, Mike Smith en Rick Huxley) diverse keren ontmoet, omdat ik in de jaren 1974-1989 "The World-Wide Dave Clark Fanclub" runde. Ik heb nog steeds contact met Dave Clark. Sinds ik zijn fanclub runde, heb ik zijn telefoonnummer en wij bellen elkaar zo nu en dan. Ben van plan om later dit jaar weer eens een bezoekje aan hem in Londen te brengen.

In fact, Dave Clark arranged everything and that is not considered positive by everyone. Indeed Dave Clark has become very rich, the other members of the DC5 (as they are often called) have become a lot less rich financially.
I have 3 members of the DC5 (Dave Clark, Mike Smith and Rick Huxley) several times since I ran "The World-Wide Dave Clark Fan Club" in the years 1974-1989. I'm still in touch with Dave Clark. Ever since I ran his fan club, I have his phone number and we call each other every now and then. Plan to visit him again in London later this year.

Mijn opmerking was niet negatief bedoeld hoor. Ik heb hem er altijd om bewonderd. De meeste bands in de sixties gaven nergens iets om. Wilden alleen maar spelen en een plaatje maken. Het grote geld ging naar de platenmaatschappijen en het management. Dave had dat al vrij snel door en las dus wel de kleine lettertjes van de contracten :-)
My comment was not meant to be negative. I've always admired him for it. Most bands in the sixties didn't care about anything. Just wanted to play and make a picture. The big money went to the record companies and management. Dave realized that pretty quickly and read the fine print of the contracts :-)

Heb Dave Clark en zanger Mike Smith voor het eerst ontmoet, kort nadat ik met de fanclub was begonnen, in het huis van hun secretaresse.
Die Gary Pig Gold was één van de leden van de fanclub, een heel apart lid mag ik wel zeggen. Hij was destijds bevriend met een andere Canadees, Doug Pelton, die ook lid was van de fanclub. Ik heb nog steeds contact (FaceBook) met beide, vooral met Doug, die ook wel een apart figuur is, maar wel ontzettend leuk.

I've known Gary Pig Gold since the seventies & amp; eighties, when I ran "The World-Wide Dave Clark Fan Club", with the approval of Dave Clark !!!
First met Dave Clark and singer Mike Smith, shortly after starting the fan club , At their secretary's house.
That Gary Pig Gold was one of the members of the fan club, a very special member I may say. At the time, he was friends with another Canadian, Doug Pelton, who was also a member of the fan club. I still have contact (FaceBook) with both, especially with Doug, who is also a separate figure, but very nice.

Veel contact met Gary in de 80er jaren gehad. Daarna verloor ik hem uit het oog totdat ik hem vorig jaar weer op FBook aantrof. Is nog steeds dezelfde gelukkig.
Stuurde wekelijks pakketjes en vroeg nooit een tegenprestatie. Helft van wat ik kreeg ging dan uit schuldgevoel naar Michel van Da Capo, die zo sportief was om Gary een deel van opbrengst te gunnen.
Nog steeds heel erg veel spijt dat ik al die papieren Pig Paper zines niet bewaard heb.

Had a lot of contact with Gary in the 80's. Then I lost sight of it until I found it again on FBook last year. Still the same luckily.
Sent parcels weekly and never asked for anything in return. Half of what I got then went to Michel from Da Capo out of guilt, who was so sporty to give Gary a share of the proceeds.
Still very, very sorry that I didn't see all those paper Pig Paper saved.
