Some people use the list view and don't see the difference at all! So you can not always tell the difference at a glance;).

Sometimes I also have 5 tabs open to see what the differences are between different items. That is quite a job to find the differences and find your copy between them, if it is already there. Often these are duplicates, unfortunately :(!

you take over what is actually on the item or not :),

I think so, because not everyone can tell that's HMV if they've never heard of it (and those people will really be there!). And with other much less known or unclear labels, that will be even stronger. I also don't know all record companies with their parent labels.

Italian is not there (yet?) No, but you can of course enter it as a name variant. Then HMV is found when a specific search is made for "Voce del padrone". This is how I always do it with comics when I have to give Italian, Swedish etc. translations of names

I think that's a nice solution.

@Stargazer

The question is do you take what is actually on the item or not :), if not ... do you provide a possibility to state the real name?

That is indeed the question. You have to copy 1 on 1 what is on the label. We do not do this for a number of data. For example, there was once a discussion about side A, side 1, lado 1 etc. We then chose to use Side A for all slides. Because if you have a good scan, you will see the difference with another album there. This difference cannot be read from the text that has been filled in, because it should be checked by means of a scan. You could also choose HMV in the description here. And as Pegag writes: if we then include Voce del Padrone as a name variant for HMV, it can always be found when collectors search on Voce ...

I don't think you need to create a separate entry field for it. A picture says more than 1000 words :-)

All yes, and maybe this is definitely a stupid question, but what are you talking about when you write about name variations? I don't see any fields / options to create variants ... or is it the intention that the importer will forward these links to an administrator himself?

that's right, only administrators have the option to enter variants and / or aliases, so ask in forum

And if you then want to search for records with the label Voce del Padrone or want an overview of them, then you have to select HMV and Italy?

And what if it has a Korean / Chinese / Other difficult-to-read language as a label? How am I supposed to find it? I don't see chinese characters or anything and I can't read it. Can I give up Asia? Or Non-American / European or something?

hi,

sorry, but i'm new

I don't understand why an artist can't be found when he appears on LP under another label or other publisher.

you sometimes have to go through four or five ways to find something or nothing

in priori you should always be able to find the artist under any viewfinder regardless of the publisher, the artist should always play the leading role

please respond

tigana

Hi Tigana13.

Could you give an example because I think the same artist on another record label should just end up with the same artist.

Just tested a few random artists who released albums with different companies and they are just together.

Could it be that what you're looking for hasn't been brought in yet?

If you misspell you will indeed not find it. You will find Bobbejaan with double-B.

I have a question about the RCA Victor Label.

If the disc says RCA Victor, then when entering the Label RCA Victor must be entered or RCA and Victor extra.

Is not very clear to me, when I look at some records on history I see that which Labels that were entered as RCA Victor have been changed back to RCA and Victor.

Has this something to do with the year of publication, can not find much about this in the Internet.

Who can help me?

That's a very old convention that I was against from the beginning ... Splitting label names. RCA-Victor, RCA-Camden, Tamla Motown and so there are a few more. Merging names is a small thing, but splitting can only be done manually and that is a disaster. That is why you will come across many RCA Victor's.

As far as I am concerned, that agreement is not based on anything, in fact: against another agreement and that is that we take over what is on the label.

@French:

Sorry. I am not in favor of it either, but it is in the Handbook Vinyl record and CD. If we want anything to change, it has to be changed in the book. Otherwise it will remain chaos.

In this context it is strange that the addition of 'records' is tolerated.

Before you change anything in the manual, there must be consensus about how people want things to be different. That may or may not result in a discussion, but that's fine. It is time for us to have that discussion (again).

The addition Records is not tolerated. At least not by me. I regularly join label areas.

I think we agree on this kind of thing ;-)

Dear French

I want to come back to the RCA Victor Label.

It is not yet clear to me what the intention is.

For example Elvis Presley is clearly written RCA Victor as Label.

Now put RCA Victor as I think it should be, or separate RCA and Victor from each other

According to the manual, RCA and Victor are entered separately. So let go.

The thought was likely at the time that Victor and RCA were originally separate companies.

Years ago I understood something different after a discussion with HenkJ. The good news is that I do very little management on Records and CDs, so I do little damage :-)

I think we agree on this kind of thing ;-)

I think so too, Frans.

The thought was likely at the time that Victor and RCA were originally separate companies.

yes, that's right. Victor is the oldest, but was already bought by RCA in the 1920s. They have continued to use the name as a label. There is one more: RCA Camden. That was a budget label.

But TamlaMotown, for example, is a different story. In America, Berry Gordy used the Tamla label for solo artists and Motown for groups. When his artists also became popular in Europe, he came up with the TamlaMotown label for the European market. For LD, that would mean that both Tamla and Motown as TamlaMotown should be in the system as labels.

Years ago I understood something different after a discussion with HenkJ. The good news is that I do very little management on Records and CDs, so I do little damage :-)

I've always been in favor of full names. Ie without the co., The inc etc. But Barn Records and BR Music. Still, I stick to the manual. Merging is difficult because you never know if they are really different labels. So you actually have to look at the items individually.

I don't know if the latest is good news ;-)

Because of whether or not records, music, (does recordings fall under this too?) env. there are duplicate labels in it.
It can help to identify the right one... but it doesn't really matter to me.

Is here the right place to ask if Bunny and Bunny Music can merge become?

Yes, you can also report that here. There are still many. I regularly merge them, but it's not always easy. I'll put the bunnies together.
