Colosseum & amp; Colosseum II :)

Wilson, Tony [° 1947] "

might be an alternative? Thanks to Wiki we can now easily find the date of birth / founding date of a singer / group? With photo would be nice too.

I rather think it is the other way around! If I look at the start date of the threads, it was there much earlier and that other thread should have been under this thread.

Because some threads get very long, people post their threads again in the forum. That way it will be more clearly highlighted under a specialized topic.

If you search the forums of CataWiki you will see that several discussions have been conducted on a different topic. Sometimes even with a completely different section.

Well, if there is no plausible solution, then such a topic will keep coming back?!

I'm still waiting for an answer ... or maybe I should find a way myself and if the item doesn't get deleted it's OK :)

@ Stargazer

In my case, I have a 1976 Tony Wilson (I Like Your Style) 45T and I don't think the T.W. are now in the database. Is there a distinction made or just clattering together?

Not yet added, add the single with scans add Wilson Tony II, the intention is that in the future a small biography of artist, band can be consulted

"Wilson, Tony [° 1947]"

Maybe is an alternative? Thanks to Wiki we can now easily find the date of birth / founding date of a singer / group? With photo would be nice too.

This is not really a solution. Old artists are not always photo sleeves and as a rule the year of birth is not with the artist on the label or whatever

These always remain difficult issues, you can if necessary mention it in details, but even then, things like this will cause mistakes.

But given the single at the first Tony and the year, this is reasonable to tackle, but mistakes are still possible

But we have specifics for that right now

Cliff Richard (born as Harry Rodger Webb , Lucknow , Uttar Pradesh , October 14 1940 ) is a English singer and actor . Since his knighthood in 1995, Cliff Richard is also officially named after his stage name.

Under what name? and the band always loose with it?

It would be a lot clearer if you use the artist name first and then the original name, most people have never heard of the original names and I assume that Catawiki should be accessible to everyone and therefore also to the layman.

So I would say turn that shit around.

No way, José. We are going to mention the Aliases more clearly, but the grouping remains on a person of flesh and blood, who can have multiple stage names. If you type in the stage name, in 99 out of 100 cases the real name will appear with the Alias after it, so there will already be sent properly.

Perhaps this has been addressed before, but I have a lot of trouble sorting my own collection by artist name.

And then it's about the real names that are entered at "Lead artist / band".

As an example Donovan whom I only knew as "Donovan" until now.

I had added an LP of his to my own collection and when I looked at the list on my iPhone I couldn't find it. Thought something went wrong.

What seems! Lead Artist/Band says "Philps Leitch, Donovan" so I had to look under the P.

I find this very difficult. Is there a solution for this so that Donovan will appear below Donovan's D in my artist list?

This includes "Robert Long" listed under "Leeverman, Bob" never heard of and

"Brenda Lee" instead of "Lee, Brenda" she's under "Tarpley, Brenda Mae" I had never heard of either.

I'd like to hear an answer to this.

Greetings Martin.

We still plan to bring the alias to the collections one day.

Lately I have been filling in the composers and lyricists with the singles, LPs and CDs, if they were not known yet.

Now my question, as an example I take Duke Ellington, (there are dozens more to name).

Duke Ellington is now listed as Ellington, Duke (Duke Ellington)

I changed this to Ellington, Edward Kennedy "Duke" (this is exactly how it is stated in e.g. Wikipedia)

This way you have everything together at once, his full name and his nickname in brackets.

Now I am having a Discussion on this with one of the record maintainers because, if I changed it, he disapproved.

What do others think about this, would also like to hear the opinion of other administrators.

The manual is pretty clear on this:

"4.1 PERSONAL NAMES Person names are entered in the order of last name (capital letter), first name (capital letter). Insertions (lower case letters) are placed after the first name. Christian names are not entered. They can be placed with the background pages.

Nijs, Rob deLennon

John (and not Lennon, John Winston)"

So as far as I'm concerned: Ellington, Edward

and Duke Ellington as an alias

Incidentally, the difference of opinion concerned the names of composers and lyricists. In principle, the same rules apply.

I totally agree with FransS, except that in very few cases I seem to consider a deviation from the main rule.

Example: W.C. Handy. We mainly know him as W.C. Handy. That is the most common form of his name, it seems that Handy, W.C. a better solution, than Handy, William.

@Tammo:

The main objection to using the artist's real name is the fact that you cannot search for the alias in your own collection.

Example:

The real name of 'Sting' is Gordon Sumner, so Sumner, Gordon. Anyone looking for records in their own collection will not get any results. Only with Gordon Sumner or Sumner, Gordon.

From the above messages it appears that Arco has already been working on this problem.

On June 6, 2017 he writes:

We still plan to bring the alias to the collections one day.

Do you have any idea if there is any progress in this area?

@Vertigo (Rob)

We have already mentioned that same problem with the Artist name and real name, that they cannot be found in my own collection.

As an example, I cited David Bowie.

Now in your collection as, Jones, David, (Who knows what David Bowie is really called)

Why not David Bowie first and then David Jones

Bowie, David (David Jones)

Greetings John

This will be in your own collection, a few examples

Biolcati, Maria Ilva

Zimmerman, Robert (At Platen)

Zimmerman, Robert Allen (By Books)

Deutschendorf Jr, Henry John

Meijgaard, Cornelia van

Franconero, Concetta

Bullock, Anne Mae

Who doesn't know them.

And it's so inconsistent, one artist does it like above, and the other doesn't,

I passed the problem with searching by alias in your collection to the developers. Arco's report, if any, was made in the Catawiki period and can now not be found in our to-do list.

That's because it was agreed a long time ago in connection with an umbrella name directory LastDodo-wide. I personally would rather have seen it the other way around.

Tina Turner ;-)

It is inconsistent because some importers enter Turner, Tina. Anne Mae then occurs 600 times and Tina 1 time. But it is there. I spend whole afternoons putting these doubles together.

To come back to the earlier discussion:

Artists sometimes write songs under a different name than their artist name. The stated pseudonym then differs from the stage name. Usually, if applicable, the artist's real name is listed as composer or lyricist.

For that reason it seems more convenient not to mention the artist name in the Composer and Lyricist sections, but a possible pseudonym as composer or lyricist.

@Rob

You know that I am changing a lot with Composers and Lyricists, there I come across the craziest things, especially with older records, they just changed their last names and put them on the record, one must first find out really are.

Now my question, do I now have to fill in the real name and not that fantasy name, or the real name with the fantasy name in brackets after it, but then one again has a problem because those real names are often already present without that fantasy names.

And I have one more thing, I am only concerned with the Copywriters.

Have an example Silent Night I did like this LD Nr. 1070277

Many songs have been translated into other languages and released over the years, should they be called original Lyricists, and where, by the Lyricists or the Composers?

Greetings John.
