I recently saw a value in the catalog with a droste hopjes tin; up to 1500.00!?

1275565

Is this a serious value for such a look?

Is there also a control over filling in the value for a can?

How much value can I attach to the interpretation in catalgus data?

Mvg Ingrid

Value of this tin 1275565 is indeed correct in my opinion neither.

Is there about 1450 € off it seems to me so

Not every user has a realistic picture of the market value. Collectors on Catawiki adjust each other when it comes to entering the correct market value.

Good that you spotted this.

Indeed not a realistic price. This has therefore been removed.

Now an image of the side with the sister and an image of the back if it says something else and the item is completely entered correctly in the CataWiki Catalog. If there is information about the maker of the can on the bottom, then the bottom as the third image.

Droste tins used to be very popular for collectors, but this tin never had that first value.

Thank you for the answers.

I am also just a novice (since a year) when it comes to cans ... Of course I like to pick up a valuable tin and spend at least for it. Kind of a sport. I also use Catawiki for value comparison. But let my feeling and intuition play a role. Do not focus blindly on a possibly high value!

After all, don't we all try to make that one big hit?

I will just continue collecting nice cans for fun.

As I saw in the catalog also a van Houten shop tin with a value of 2800 to 5000. So take with a few grains of salt.

We wish everyone a great collecting success,

greetings ingrid

I think it is incorrect of the moderator of Catawiki to assign a value of 50 instead of 1500 euros to the very rare Droste hopjes tin (of which only two are known). If the can in question is in very good condition, a purchase amount between 1000 and 1500 euros is certainly feasible. The person who put that amount in the catalog with the relevant packaging knew what to do.

If you have the relevant hopjes tin for sale in very good condition, I would like to take it over from you, as a Droste collector I have been looking for it for a very long time.

A value of 50 euros for such a scarce tin in good condition does not testify to knowledge of rare tin packaging, that is really an unrealistic amount.

I don't know anything about comic books and I think I wouldn't function well as a moderator for comic books, so I'll stick with my tin cans. It's not for nothing that the proverb says 'Cobbler stick to your last' or: don't do things you don't understand.

I myself have been collecting tin packaging for more than 45 years, with a specialization in Droste packaging.

Sincerely, Job

I don't understand cans, but because of the stolen image this item These days are rejected.

By the way, if only two copies of this tin are known, then it seems to me that this is pre-eminently information that should be mentioned under Particulars. Then the above discussion would probably have gone differently.

@Job,

I think it is incorrect for the moderator of Catawiki to assign a value of 50 instead of 1500 euros to the very rare Droste hopjes can (of which only two are known).

I have no understanding of tins, but I do of comics :), but if you read the posts to this thread carefully, there are several collectors who find the amount for this tin very high.

Ted has indeed removed the high amount but someone else added the low value.

If indeed only 2 cans are known, I can imagine a high value for an item of almost 100 years old.

It is important, just as Bookstore wrote, that this is properly reported in the details.

Just a short addition:

- the moderator indicates that it is indeed not a realistic price and that it has therefore been removed. As a moderator you should not just do that, contact the person who put the value on it and ask what the reason is for such a high value;

- that there are more collectors who finding the amount high is no reason either. I also think it is a very high amount, but - just like more renowned Droste collectors - I am willing to do it. I think that in the comic world if expert collectors put 1000 euros in front of a comic book, there will be many collectors who think that is a high amount. This does not mean that it would be too high and should be removed from the catalog.

- with the remark to mention that only two copies are known, of course I fully agree but that does not alter the above.

Ted It is the power and structure of the wiki system. Building something together because you often do not know / have all the information and someone else may be able to fill in that missing piece.

Is this topic also mentioned?

Yes, indeed, precisely because that is the strength and structure of the Wiki system, I responded and also provided a new price suggestion for the object in question.

Just a pity that I have not responded to that yet have received or. have seen addition.

I have removed the price from this tin because I could not prove that this price was correct. I did not receive an answer to my question to the importer on which the price was based and I did not find any comparative material on the internet. In such a case, the best solution is to remove the prize. This is partly because, especially in the early days of the auction, objects are placed in the catalog with unrealistic prices only to raise the auction price.

To avoid disappointment among bidders and providers, these types of prices have been removed. The disadvantage of this is that it is possible for everyone to enter a new price afterwards.

If you can demonstrate that the value of the tin in question is in line with the market, by means of auction results, for example, then we will be happy to adjust the price. But with a small explanation in the details field why the list price is justified.

This example shows once again that it is difficult to paste a value into a collector's item and for price moderators to adjust values based on price suggestions.

I understand the problem. I myself have been a can collector since 1969 and because of this and through my interest I have gained knowledge over time, especially in the field of Droste, my specialization.

In November a booklet about Droste's cocoa cans will be published my hand.

A third hop can from Droste - which I hope I can buy again - can pop up anywhere, not only at a marketplace or at an auction, but also at a fair or in an antique store.

The fact that you have not been able to find any information about the value of the can on the internet is also an indication that it is a very rare tin packaging from Droste.

I guarantee that the values I have provided to Catawiki for this can are a good representation of a yield on the current market. I have already indicated that I would like to buy such a can in good condition for that amount. By the way, there are more Doste collectors where that applies.

I still dispute your statement (that it was not a realistic price that the installer of the can on Catawiki).

It is a pity that as a moderator you nevertheless want to withhold that value and information from Droste collectors, can collectors and other interested parties.

So be it, I am does not agree but closes the discussion.

Strange that there is so much to do here about a list price, while comics (and if I'm not mistaken also stamps) are no longer updated at all, due to a lack of moderators.

As a Droste collector I agree with Job that the price of that Hopjes Droste tin is definitely worth € 1500.00, I will definitely want to buy it for this price, I have also been a Droste collector since 1970

I also worked at Droste

€ 432.99 to be exact, but in fair condition.

So that was copy number 3 .

Nice to see that the front and back are different.
Too bad we can't use those photos.

The tin that I put in the catalog at the time is in perfect condition

and is in the depot of the former tin museum Deventer.

The copy that was recently auctioned on Ebay is in much lesser condition

(lid is heavily rusted) and has therefore logically yielded much less.

A mint copy will still fetch around Euro 1500.00.
