Lors d’une mission de renseignements, il fut capturé par les Britanniques et pendu peu après la bataille de Long Island. Il est considéré comme un des héros des Etats-Unis.

Les chutes sont faites de trois parties : 1° les «chutes du Fer-à-Cheval» (Horseshoe Falls) ou «chutes canadiennes», 2° les «chutes américaines» (American Falls) et 3° les «chutes du Voile de la Mariée» (Bridal Veil Falls). Bien qu’elles ne soient pas particulièrement hautes (57 m), les chutes du Niagara sont très larges.

F – Le bison de l’Amérique du Nord: Cet animal est une espèce qui vit essentiellement en troupeau dans les grandes prairies du Midwest des Etats-Unis. Avant l’arrivée des colons européens, on estimait qu’il y avait entre 50 à 70 millions de bisons vivant sur les plaines herbeuses du Mexique au Canada. Ces troupeaux ont été pourchassés à la fin du XIXe siècle au point de menacer quasiment la survie de l'espèce. Aujourd’hui, après la réintroduction de l’espèce, il y en aurait environ 500.000.
E – The American buffalo: This animal is a species living in vast herds that roams the big prairies Of the Midwest of the United States. Before the arrival of European colonists, 50 to 70 millions bisons were living on the rich grassland from Mexico to Canada. Those herds were hunted and slaughtered up to the nearly extinction. Through reintroduction, there would be 500.000 bisons today.

Particularité:
William Cody (1846-1917) avait plusieurs boulots : il était notamment trappeur, capteur de taureaux, chercheur d’or, cavalier du Pony Express, guides des caravanes de colons, conducteur de diligences, soldat pendant la Guerre de Sécession et aussi chasseur de bisons d’où le surnom de « Buffalo Bill ». Il dirigea également une troupe théâtrale populaire, le Wild West Show qui le rendit célèbre aussi bien aux Etats-Unis qu’en Europe.
Special feature:
William Cody (1846-1917) had several jobs: he was trapper, bull catcher, gold digger, Pony Express rider, guides of settler caravans, coach driver, a soldier during the Civil War and also a buffalo hunter, hence the nickname “Buffalo Bill”. He also directed a popular theatre troupe, the Wild West Show, which made him famous in both the United States and Europe.

Suite à une rénovation en 1995-1996, les urnes du côté sud furent enlevées en 1996 et après quelques détours tombèrent en mains privées. En fin de compte les urnes furent rendues en 2011 à l’Armée des Etats-Unis qui gère le Cimetière National d’Arlington.

Following a renovation in 1995-1996, the south side ballot boxes were removed in 1996 and after some detours fell into private hands. In the end, the ballot boxes were returned in 2011 to the United States Army, which manages the Arlington National Cemetery.

The construction has a neoclassic style that was built beginning at the end of the 18th century and ending in 1812. F – La Statue de la Liberté : Statue de bronze conçue par Thomas Crawford qui couronne le dôme du Capitole à Washington D.C. depuis 1863. D'une hauteur de 6 mètres, elle représente un personnage féminin portant un casque militaire et tenant une épée dans sa main droite et une couronne de laurier et un bouclier dans sa main gauche. La statue se dresse sur un globe en fonte sur lequel est inscrite l'une des devises des Etats-Unis, « E pluribus unum » (un seul à partir de plusieurs).

Particularité:
Lorsque le sculpteur Crawford meurt subitement en 1857, le modèle qu'il avait réalisé en argile est toujours dans son atelier à Rome. Une copie fut donc réalisée en plâtre en cinq sections et n’arriva à Washington qu’à la fin mars 1859, surtout à cause de bris trop importants lors du voyage en mer.
Special feature:
When the sculptor Crawford died suddenly in 1857, the model he had made in clay was still in his studio in Rome. A plaster copy was made in five sections and did not reach Washington until the end of March 1859, mainly because of too great a break during the voyage to sea.
