Details
In February, 1934, after the annihilation of the Kashar bogus "Islamic Republic of Eastern Turkestan", its remnants, with Mohammed Imin as their leader, fled to Hotan and propped up a "Hotan Government of the Islamic Republic", choosing Mansur, Mohammed's elder brother, to be "padixa" (Uygur, meaning "king"). Soon, Mansur was slain and his younger brother escaped to India. The bogus "Hotan Government of the Islamic Republic" was rooted out. Hotan was occupied by Ma Hushan. Before it was destroyed, the bogus "Hotan Government of the Islamic Republic" issued a number of 1-tael notes of paper and 100-wen (in red cash) notes of cloth, both inscribed in Uygur. These notes are very rare. A specimen of this note was auctioned in 2006 for € 195,= excluding costs (Jean Elsen, auction 90, lot 938).
